Cool things to check out

Some not so new things.... but still worth checking out:

1) Window's Remixed
If you haven't seen this already, you've got to check this out. It's a remix of Window's sounds, all done using the bog-standard Window's sound recorder.

2) Send an email to your future self. Nag your own future self about not doing those things you're supposed to have done!

Mystery link-a-rama

So I was checking referrer stats today, and came across 2 sites that I hadn't heard of before...

1) Xfresh (Malaysian site for teens)
There's a onebean banner on this page!!! Crazy. I'd love to hear from people that know about this site or the people who put the ad up and where they found the site! It's pretty cool to have a banner made for you without you knowing about it...

2) StumbleUpon (peer site ranking)
I'm still figuring this all out, but it seems that people who are part of this community (there's gotta be a cooler term for it, but it's 1:40am, I've had a couple of drinks, I'm not that hip with terms and... well, whatever) rank sites they think are worth looking at, and... something happens. If you're the person who recommended onebean: THANKS! Anyone care to fill me in on some details? For example, I've installed the toolbar, I can say "I like it" or not about sites... but how can I see how I'm going?

Thanks again for those people who are helping to promote onebean - this is a one, er, bean operation (?? yeah, you thought there was a WHOLE TEAM here right??? riiiight) so any free publicity is really very much appreciated.

Oh, thanks to all the people that have clicked on ads!! I've now made a whopping 10 bucks! Keep clicking...

Tech hiccups.... Gone!

As fate would have it, just when traffic was at it's heaviest in the site's short history, the mail form functionality went a little spotty. This is because the provider of that service was doing some routine maintenance - but everything should be working now.

Also working again are the live bookmarks, which stopped working for a while when I switched to Blogger.

Despite those little hiccups, the past couple of days have been great! There were 3000 people that came by on the 23rd, 14 new subsciptions, 3 enquiries about custom cartoons - and thanks to all those people who did manage to send a note through the site. For only having been live for 2 months, we're doing pretty well. With all the upgrades planned, other side projects and preparation for Mexico, I'm going to have to make sure more new cartoons get done!

I was at a family dinner last night and, as many creators already know, family is a great source of inspiration and funny stories. The trick is to make those stories universally appealing. Based on last night though, I'm convinced that we've got some good common ground with the rest of the world! There are 3 characters that I'm going to work on first. To protect the identities of the characters in question, let's call them.... Uncle Ned, Uncle Don and Auntie Flo.

Well, I'd better get cracking with some of these to-dos...

A little reminder...

That there are more cartoons on the left of the cartoon pages (and the homepage)!! I've been noticing in the stats that a lot of people are missing the additional cartoons in each set that can be found on the left hand menu... Well, it's either that or people don't really want to see them!! waaaahh! Check out the homepage for the little reminder!

The Mexico Trip

So, the ticket's been bought and the time to leave is getting closer! Yes, the Great Mexican Marine Conservation Expedition of 2006 is almost upon me! I'm leaving March 30 and will be in SF until April 8th, then Mexico until June 29, then NYC until July 10, then Tokyo for 3 days then home... coolness distilled. Still quite a lot of gear to buy and a couple of jabs still to get though. There's no real rush I s'pose. And still a few beds I need to arrange for various stops... ooooh, the adrenalin surges, though, when I think about all that diving!!

Yes, I've been slacking with the cartoons... it's been a 'busy' week, what with beers with Mark to celebrate/relieve new-born baby stress and then the ensuing hangover, and today's 12 hour effort helping Mike at the shoot (can't complain - lot's of pretty girls, not particularly stressful and it got me away from my computer screen).

Although, when you have such an uncomplicated life like I currently do, these kinds of things really mess with your routine. I'm being serious - somehow when I'm not busy, I fill my day with this and that, and not being able to do those little things (because of hangovers or 12 hour photo shoots) just kinda makes me feel like there are still things on my to-do list. I know it's probably just me and my screwed up (as in far-too-consciencious) work ethic, or really, what WAS my work ethic. Oh yeah, I can hear certain people laugh at that one! But, I reckon it's pretty spot on.

Anyway, not working really is soooo much nicer. *sigh* this bliss will all end one day... (I have a feeling the bank knows EXACTLY when that'll be).

I also remember swearing to myself that I'd never start a blog. 'Who the hell is going to want to read someone else's jibber-jabber?' I'd say. Riiiight....

Blog added to the site!

This was one of the things I'd been meaning to do for a while now... The next move will be to make the blog the homepage, where cartoon updates and other postings will go, then the 'cartoon' section will be more of a catalog of cartoons, which is much better for new visitors. Then again, maybe I'll keep the blog page as it is and only post actual cartoons to the 'cartoons' section, with a blog update saysing so... Man, I don't know! Organic growth...

Something else on the 'to do' is to move to PHP... gotta start streamlining this baby!

Right, time to go to bed - gotta get up at 630am to help Mike out on a shoot! ugh. But it'll be a (small) paycheck - the first for a few months!

Onebean - A daily dose of beans: good for your funny bone.

Onebean is a cartoon featuring, well, beans! There's also Donny the Chinese Dragon, Saucy the Soybean and Sven, the 'Shavers Only' guy.

The cartoon is a little strange in that the name 'Bean' can be applied to almost any of the bean characters - it's more a term of endearment than an actual name.
